THE PSAT IS COMING
Juniors are in the spotlight this week. Most will be taking the PSAT in school on Wednesday, October 12th. Personally, I am a big fan of the PSAT. First, it gives you an opportunity to experience a standardized test without all the usual pressure. Your score is not sent to colleges, and it does not impact your high school grades. Second, it is a good indicator of how you will perform on the SAT. And finally, it determines your eligibility for a National Merit Scholarship.
Certainly, earning a National Merit Scholarship is no easy task. Each year, approximately 16,000 students (out of 1.4 million juniors) qualify for National Merit Scholar status based on their PSAT score. Another 34,000 students receive recognition as Commended Scholars. And while Commended Scholars do not typically include a guaranteed scholarship, the status definitely looks good on your college application.
Preparing for college starts early. The PSAT is a great example of that. In today’s newsletter, I’m happy to highlight some resources that will help your student prepare for the PSAT. And if you’re interested in exploring the others ways that I help students find and fund their ideal college experiences, give me a call at 405-906-7044!
