Top 10 reasons to hire me as your college consultant:
10 – College is a significant expense. According to the College Board’s look at the 2017-2018 academic year, the average cost for tuition was $9,410 at an in-state public school, $23,890 for an out-of-state college, and $32,410 at a private school. For a four-year education, the average is $37,640 to $129,640. And that’s just tuition. You’ll also need to consider the cost of room and board, transportation, books and supplies, and basic living expenses.
9 – There are lots of college choices. There are 48 colleges in Oklahoma, and almost 4300 nationwide.
8 – High School Counselors can’t do it all. On average, there is only one high school college counselor per 476 students. The average total time spent on college counseling with each high school student is 38 minutes. Six out of ten students receive no college counseling in their schools.
7 – Things are changing every day. It’s difficult to keep up with everything from standardized test formats to admissions requirements to conventional wisdom.
6 – Building a high school resume is the first big step. No two resumes are alike. The best resumes include school activities as well as those found out in the community.
5 – Narrowing the dream colleges to a manageable list requires some basic information. Location. Distance from home. Size. Degrees. Greek Life. Religious affiliation.
4 – Applying to college is an exhaustive process. Early Action vs. Early Decision vs. Regular Decision. Resumes. Essays. Letters of Recommendation. Deadlines. Deadlines. Deadlines.
3 – Finding money at your chosen college can be tricky. Some scholarships are automatically awarded. Others require an additional application. Can you qualify for merit-based and need-based scholarships? Are your scholarships stackable? And again … Deadlines. Deadlines. Deadlines.
2 – Outside scholarships are obtainable. First in your family to go to college? Majoring in education? US Government fanatic? There are thousands of scholarships available nationwide. And hundreds of thousands of dollars go unclaimed each year.
1 – You’re feeling overwhelmed. Standardized tests. Grades. Resumes. In-state. Out-of-state. Applications. Deadlines. Supplemental requirements. Tuition. Other fees. Scholarships. When? Where? How?
