SNOW DAY = VIRTUAL TOURS
Are you like me, and you’re sitting at home today because the roads are icy? Seems like the perfect opportunity to take a few college tours – virtually, of course!
One of the benefits of COVID is that colleges spent a ton of money and resources to develop really good virtual tours. Now taking a virtual tour is often the first step in the college search process. Deciding where to spend four years of college is a big decision and one that should involve seeing the campus to get a sense of the setting, resources, faculty, student body, facilities, and so much more. Self-guided (pre-recorded) and live student-guided tours are available on many college websites. There are also a variety of independent websites that offer virtual tours. Check out these:
YouVisit: This popular virtual tour is user-friendly. Each campus has a current student as your online guide, talking you through what makes the different parts of campus special and unique to that particular college.
CampusTours: This is one of the most popular sites because its advanced search feature allows students to specify exactly what they’re looking for in the college experience, such as cost or location.
eCampusTours: With 360-degree views of campuses, this website contains a lot of informational sections highlighting questions that come to students’ and parents’ minds when visiting a campus.
CampusReel: Although it doesn’t offer traditional tours, this website is a good place to look for insights on campuses as its database contains thousands of student-generated videos offering multiple perspectives on college campuses.
While you’re taking your virtual tours, make sure to screenshot, bookmark, and screen record different parts of the tour so that you can reference these later. Take notes and be sure to reach out to the admissions office if you have questions.
In my role as a college admissions consultant, I am here to guide you through all aspects of finding and funding your ideal college experience. That includes asking you to tour some college campuses. No two campuses are alike. And truly, no two students are alike. My approach to college admissions reflects that.
