DOG DAYS OF SUMMER
In OKC, we’re expecting a temp of 111 degrees today. How is that possible? It’s certainly that time of year. Everyone is complaining about the heat – including me. But the heat is actually a good conversation starter with my students: Does the weather impact where you want to go to college?
I spent ten years living in Seattle, WA – and lots of kids from Seattle gravitate to colleges in sunny Southern California and Arizona. I then spent ten years living in Tucson, AZ – and kids from there flock to the (cooler) northern part of the state, but also to all parts of California. In Oklahoma, we don’t tend to see lots of decisions being made based on weather and yet, there are so many other factors that come into play. A few possibilities include:
• Big-Time Athletics
• Cultural Events
• Good Fitness Facilities
• Internships
• Learning Disability Support
• Research Opportunities
• Good Food
• Bike Friendly Campus
